Employee of the Year Nominations

Beyond Vision Team,

National Industries for the Blind is seeking nominations from its non-profit agencies for the 2021 Peter J. Salmon Employee of the Year Award and the Milton J. Samuelson Career Achievement Award. The Salmon Award honors employees who are legally blind working in direct labor or service operations. The Samuelson Award recognizes the career advancement of people who are legally blind at an NIB associated agency or in the private sector. All nominees will be honored by NIB at the Training Conference and Expo in October 2021.  Historically, Beyond Vision has nominated one employee from Milwaukee and one from the BSC’s for the Salmon award.   We try to nominate one employee from the whole organization for the Samuelson award as well.  Last year Gina Rowell and Jed Moss were our nominees for the Salmon award.  Sarah Heesen was our nominee for the Samuelson award and did end up winning the national award.

Again, this year, we would like input from all employees to assist in determining our nominees.  In addition to NIB’s criteria, we also look at the employees overall performance and contributions this past calendar year.  We also evaluate how the potential nominees have lived  our seven organizational values.  As a reminder our seven value questions include:

  1. Does the employee put the Mission First?
  2. Is the employee committed to continuous improvement?
  3. Has the employee delighted our internal and external customers?
  4. Does the employee promote diversity and inclusion?
  5. Does the employee promote the upward mobility of others/
  6. Does the employee’s approach to work foster a fun and collegial culture?
  7. Does the employee consistently carry out their job duties in a safe manner?  Do they promote a safe culture?

In addition to providing a name, we’d like to know why you would like this person considered.  This input will be part  of the information used by our Senior Staff and Jim Kerlin to decide our  nominees.
