2020 – 27 Pay Dates

Beyond Vision Team –

The Year 2020 continues to be weird.  In a typical year, there are 26 pay dates.  About every seven years, there is an anomaly and the year has 27 pay dates.  The anomaly was supposed to occur in 2021.  But the first planned pay date for 2021 is January 1st. Which is a holiday and banks are closed.  Therefore, we are processing payroll a day early.  Thursday, December 31, 2020 will be the 27th pay date for 2020.

Benefit withholdings like health insurance, dental, vision, and life insurance are calculated based upon a 26 pay date year.  Since we have 27 pay dates, we will not make payroll deductions for these benefits on the December 31st pay date.  Other voluntary and involuntary deductions will occur.

2021 will have the “normal” 26 pay dates.  Let’s hope this is an omen for a return to normalcy in the New Year.
